Q100505: How to add Nuke Studio/Hiero source clips to export presets
SUMMARY
This article explains how you can add the original source file to a Nuke Studio / Hiero export preset whilst also exporting other sequences, adding the Read nodes into the exported Nuke script.
MORE INFORMATION
When creating Nuke Studio / Hiero export presets, if you don’t select a Read node in the Nuke Project File, then the source shot will be added as a Read node in the exported Nuke script. However, if you select a Read node, from a Transcode for example, then the source shot will not be available in the Nuke script.
In order to combine the original source with other exports such as Transcodes, in the Nuke script, you can follow the steps below:
1) In your project, select the shot(s) to be exported, then File>Export… to open the Export dialog.
2) In the export structure, add a directory and call it {filepath}.
3) In that directory, create a new file entry called {filename} and set its content type to External Render.
4) In the Nuke Project File, set the Read nodes to be your file entries and the newly created {filepath}/{filename} entry.
5) Export using the preset, and the exported Nuke script will contain Read nodes for both the Transcoded sequence and the original source file.
NOTE: Depending on the order of the file entries in the export structure, the order of the Read nodes in the Nuke script will change. The file entry at the bottom of the export structure will be the node which is connected to the rest of the Nuke script, so in this example, it’s the original source file.
