Exporting

Exporting a Project for Colorway

To export a project from C4D, do the following:

1.   Select File > Export > Colorway DeepColor (*.dci).

Alternatively, you can export a project by selecting Plugins > Export DeepColor File (.dci).

A dialog appears with any errors listed, with details explaining how they have occurred.

You can choose to ignore these errors by clicking Continue, or you can click Cancel to go back and rectify the errors before exporting. If the errors cannot be ignored, Colorway Kit in C4D does not present you with an option to Continue. See Troubleshooting for more information.

2.   After clicking Continue, you are asked to specify a location to export to. Browse to the required location and click Save.

An export dialog is then displayed asking whether you want to allow procedural textures. This option is enabled by default. See Export Options for more information.

3.   Select or deselect the checkbox (depending on your preferences), and then click Export.

Your project is exported to the specified location as a .dci file.

Export Options

Allow Procedural Textures

The exporter aims to neutralize light and material colors so adjustments can be made in Colorway. If Colorway does not recognize a procedural texture in a material color, or a light’s luminance slot, one of two things can happen:

With this option disabled, the unknown shader is removed so a neutral render can be produced. This allows full adjustments to be made in Colorway, but can affect the rendered image.

If this option is enabled, any materials with unrecognized shaders are left as is, and the result of these procedural textures are baked into the render. This may, or may not be desirable, depending on the contributions it makes to the image. A simple monochrome noise, for example, could add valuable variation without limiting color adjustment in Colorway. However, a strong, saturated color could severely limit the changes you can make later on.
